Hey guys, my name is Aaron Massey and welcome back to another episode of Homeschool. Today's project is how to install a GFCI outlet.
For a complete list of tools you need for this project, you can find it in the description below the video.
First, you need to turn off the power to the breaker that operates the unit you are working on. Make sure to identify the correct breaker by testing or labeling them.
It's important to label your breaker panel for future reference to easily identify which breaker controls which area of your house.
If necessary, install an outlet box securely to the framing before running the wires through.
Identify the wires - black for hot, white for neutral, and copper for ground. Strip the wires as needed for installation.
Connect the wires to the corresponding terminals on the GFCI outlet. Ground to green, hot to gold, and neutral to silver.
Note that the neutral terminal on the GFCI outlet has a silver finish to differentiate it from the hot terminal.
Once the wiring is connected, install the face plate to provide a clean finish to the outlet.
After completing the installation, turn the power back on to the breaker to activate the GFCI outlet.
Use a circuit tester to ensure that the GFCI outlet is functioning correctly by verifying the wiring and safety mechanisms.
